Railston wins Shopfitting Excellence Award.Railston have won the Shopfitting Excellence category of the Retail Interior Awards. The result was announced at an Awards Ceremony at London's Grosvenor House Hotel on Thursday 14 September 2006. |
Criteria for the Shopfitting Excellence category stated that "the judges would be looking for shopfitters that demonstrate excellence in fabrication and translation of design ideas".
Railston's win was for Material Lab, a showroom for specifiers of surfacing materials in London's West End holding possibly the largest display of surfacing materials in the world. The showroom demonstrates to specifiers such as architects and designers how different surfacing materials can be expected to behave under conditions varying from a dry Arizona desert to highly humid conditions. Railston had to overcome technical obstacles such as safely pumping 1000 litres of water continually past electricity and an open fire. Material Lab was designed by "i-am" Associates with whom Railston worked closely and whose design they had to interpret.
"This is arguably the highest accolade a UK shopfitter can receive" says Railston Managing Director Steve Rumsey. "The project was a challenge that demanded the very best from the Railston team which, led by Gerry O'Sullivan, rose successfully to it."
